When you apply for the diploma there are three interview options:
- Participation in one of our open workshops in London which will enable us to see how you work with ideas and puppets
- We recommend that as an alternative you choose to have your interview in Yorkshire and spend the day with current Diploma students.
- It might be that because of your time constraints you need to have a private workshop, making and operating class.
As well as this you will also have a face to face interview. The whole process takes about three hours. There is a fixed fee of £50 to cover the cost of the interview.
What to bring to your interview
So that we can really get a good idea about who you are, and also see that you are committed to working as a professional puppeteer, we will ask you to prepare some work to bring to your interview:
- A trial business plan showing that you understand how a puppeteer earns a living and that you are aware of the help available to enable you to set up in business as a freelance artist. This needs researching.
- Anything of interest about yourself that you think might appeal to your interviewer- anything from recipes to oil paintings as well as anything puppetry related.
- You may also need to bring something specific for the open workshop, if so you will be told in advance.
After the interview
After your interview we will notify you by writing of the outcome, generally we will make a decision within a few days. If you have been successful you will be provided with all the information you need for your chosen course.
In the event your application was unsuccessful, you may appeal the decision in writing within two weeks of receiving our decision. We make every effort to review any appeal, but we can not give any guarantee that we will be able to offer you a place.
