Teacher Training

As there is a shortage of teachers of puppetry who can design and deliver a curriculum and devise methods of assessment, the LSP have designed the Teacher Training Extension to be taken alongside the Diploma in Professional Puppetry. It is also possible for current diploma holders to take this as a stand alone extention to their existing qualification.

Many puppeteers have had experience running short workshops or courses, but this course builds on any existing teaching experience you may have with a rich curriculum designed to teach students the broad skill set required to teach puppetry at a high level.

Throughout the course, students will learn to:

  • communicate via the specialised skills of the puppeteer when working as a trainer.
  • devise and create new written work for animated objects or to adapt and perform existing material
  • enable your students to accept responsibility for determining and achieving personal or group outcomes when making work.
  • enable your students to commit themselves to the processes of surrogacy and develop the use of the puppet as a transitional object.
  • enable a client to rise to the social expectations of puppet play, facilitating puppet play as means for projection

The course can be taken as an extension to either the Fast Track or Slow Track diploma options, or as a stand alone course available to current holders of the Diploma in Professional Puppetry.
