LSP students make history

Posted 2016 Jan by Caroline Astell-Burt

Following a month long visit to Japan to study otome bunraku (women's puppetry) at the wonderful Hitomi Puppet Theatre in Kawasaki with Yoshiko Murakani, Caroline Astell-Burt returned to LSP to share what she learnt. The result was the first performance of otome bunraku styled puppetry in the UK. It

arose out of a collaboration between puppeteers and their additional skills in acting, directing, costume design, graphic art and animation. Together they worked to create puppets and action making Apple Dance which was acclaimed with standing ovations at the Poêt Laval puppet festival in the South of France.
