Shadow Puppet-Theatre and the Acquisition of a Second Language. Derby. East Midlands. March 7th-14th 2019

Shadow puppet-theatre and the acquisition of a second language: an exploration.

This is a hands-on Course with experienced tutors. You will make puppets and perform with them each day of the Course. Discussion will play a large part in enabling participants to plan their use of puppetry in their workplace after the course. The aim is to achieve a transferable confident handling of the physical materials and technology of shadow puppetry to enable the development of a linguistic presence either as a speaker moving from a foreign language to English or from English to a foreign language.

  • Playing with shadow theatre and music exploring body puppets “feeling language.”
  • Making puppets and performing narratives.
  • Playing with the poetry of language
  • Rethinking the issues with puppets. "Watching, witnessing and rewinding."
